Is Man Mattel next? Barbie?

Maybe not, but Masters of the universe It could still be the start of a franchise for the gaming company’s latest live-action cinematic effort.

Below is the first trailer for the Amazon MGM and Mattel Studios film, which brings to life the iconic toy line and popular 1980s animated series.

Official description: “After being separated for 15 years, the Sword of Power leads Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine) to Eternia where he discovers that his home has been destroyed under the demonic rule of the Skeleton (Jared Leto). To save his family and his world, Adam must unite with his closest allies, Teyla (Camila Mendes) and Duncan/Man-at-Arms (Idris Elba), and accept his true destiny as a man – The Man. The Most Powerful Man in the Universe.”

Masters of the universe Directed by Travis Knight, it also stars Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Johannes Hakur Johansson, and Charlotte Riley, and features Kristen Wiig as the voice of Roboto.

The project has had a long road to making it to the big screen, with development reportedly dating back to 2007 and John Woo attached to direct. The title has undergone many rewrites over the years, with various writers trying to break the text. Finally, the film was greenlit with a story by Aaron, Adam Nee, Alex Litvak, and Michael Finch, and a screenplay by Chris Butler, Aaron, Adam Nee, and Dave Callaham.

Masters of the universe It will be released in theaters on June 5.
