The film has its world premiere in Proxima Competition of the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF), taking place in the Czech spa town from July 3-11.
Co-written by Elisambita Elijah Georgiadou, the film features cinematography by Christos Fodoris and editing by Livia Nirosopoulou. Anastasis Georgulas and Flumaria papadaki (animal) stars in a co-production of Greece, Bulgaria, Germany, Cyprus and Romania. Elias arrives on the aforementioned remote island to obtain his late father’s inheritance. “But the longer he had to stay on the island, the more his initial indifference began to fade,” the summary read. “As he interacts with the local community, he uncovers his father’s past, and with it the image of a man that differs greatly from his memories.”
His awakened feelings gradually intensify when he meets the local girl Calliope and experiences “sudden convulsions in his body and a mysterious blackout that affects the entire island.”

KVIFF’s website promises “a tender portrait of a world both real and mystical — a place where, despite distant echoes that herald the potential end of the world, we encounter unexpected love, reconciliation, and understanding.”
THR Contains two exclusive clips from Almost a complete person Check it out here to whet your appetite before the KVIFF premiere on Sunday, July 5.
The first scene includes a conversation between Elias and Calliope about clouds and more. Wait, does that cloud look a bit like US President Donald Trump!? Let me know after watching the exclusive film clip below! She’s also surprised by the talk about Republicans in Michigan, the correct way to pronounce that state — and the donut shop. But see for yourself…
The second clip gives us an early glimpse at what the locals might be trying to do about the mysterious power outage on the island. Check out the second exclusive film clip from Almost a complete person here.
