Akshay Kumar believes that a film does not need a big promotional event or a larger-than-life spectacle to become a success at the box office. The actor cited the huge success of Saiyaara as an example, saying the romantic drama won over audiences through its music, romance and performances.Speaking to IANS, Akshay was asked about the growing belief that only action films and multi-starrer films succeed in theatres, a view recently echoed by actor R Madhavan.

“If this is in the movie’s destiny, it will work.”

Responding to the discussion, Akshay said that the success of the film ultimately depends on its fate.He added, “If this is in the film’s destiny, it will work one way or another.”The actor then returned to Saiyaara, starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and

Annette Bada

as proof that content can triumph without elaborate promotional events.

“What event did Saiyaara do?”

Recalling the film, Akshay asked director Ahmed Khan, who was present during the interaction, to remind him of its title.“Recently, a movie came out with a new boy and a new girl. What is this movie?” he asked. After Ahmed Khan responded with “Siyaara”, Akshay continued, “Yes, Saiyaara. What was the event in the movie? I want to ask, what was the event in the movie? There was no event. It’s just that his songs worked, and the romance in the movie worked.”

This caught. The boy and girl did well and were lucky with the success of the film.”

About Sayara

Directed by Mohit Suri and backed by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara stars newcomer Ahaan Panday alongside Aneet Padda. The romantic drama has emerged as one of the biggest Indian blockbusters of 2025, becoming the third highest-grossing Indian film of the year and the highest-grossing Indian romantic film of all time. The film is also believed to be loosely inspired by the 2004 South Korean romantic drama A Moment to Remember.
