Her love story took an unforgettable turn during what she thought was Alibaug’s birthday. While she was envisioning a big show with friends around, Sharan had something much more personal in mind.“I wanted the party to be big, but Sharan wasn’t very nice about me inviting my friends. He wanted to keep it very small,” Akansha said in an interview with Vogue India. The night before the planned celebration, she had severe allergies.

She said: “I am under the blanket sneezing and I say to him: Turn off the light, turn off the light.” Instead, Sharan played Jack Johnson’s “Angel” — the same song that later appeared at their wedding — and presented with a ring.

“I looked up and said, ‘I trust you to do this when I have an allergy attack.’”Explaining why he chose such a simple proposal, Sharan said: “You hear all these stories of big shows with musicians and big productions, and I can’t relate to them.

I wanted it to be straight from the heart. Just the two of us in our safe space, wearing our jumpsuits and pajamas. The wedding festivities kicked off with an intimate pre-wedding party at 38 Manhattan, the library-inspired venue located above the St. Regis Mumbai. “It’s all made of wood, chandeliers and open windows. It can only seat about 120 people,” Akansha said. For the occasion, she chose a romantic, dusty pink design of her own

“I wanted to be romantic and feminine. I didn’t want anything too loud,” she explained.Sharan coordinated Manish Malhotra’s burgundy outfit with black pants. His ensemble was one of three looks gifted to him by Karan Johar for the wedding celebrations. After an evening filled with celebrations and dancing, guests enjoyed the couple’s favorite late-night food – the 3am menu featuring Maggi and French fries.
