Steven Tyler has won a major victory in his ongoing lawsuit alleging sexual abuse of a minor, after a California judge dismissed the majority of the claims against him.In the lawsuit, Julia Holcomb claims she was involved in a years-long relationship with the Aerosmith singer, which began when she was just 16 years old.
Holcomb filed a lawsuit in California and made several other allegations about sexual encounters in various states. However, according to court documents cited by TMZ, the judge dismissed all of the other claims and ruled that only one suit, tied to an alleged incident in California, could go forward. The lawsuit centers on an allegation that Tyler and Holcomb had sexual relations during a 1974 trip to California, including at a hotel and a public hot tub, while she was still minors.Tyler’s attorney, David Long Daniels, said in a statement that the ruling was a decisive victory. “This is a huge win for Steven Tyler,” he said. “Today, the court dismissed with prejudice 99.9% of the claims against Mr. Tyler in this case. The court has determined that just one night in over fifty years is allowed to remain in a three-year relationship. We look forward to trying this case on August 31.”Claims related to alleged sexual encounters in other states, including Massachusetts and Oregon, have been dismissed on jurisdictional grounds and cannot be tried in a California court.
According to the report, recordings indicate that the couple’s relationship lasted for several years. By the following year (June 1975), the two were reportedly living together, engaged, and even expecting a child together.Holcomb initially filed the lawsuit in December 2022, accusing Tyler of sexual assault, sexual battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The case is now set to proceed on the only remaining claim.Last year, Aerosmith canceled the rest of their AeroVederci tour, sparking concern about Tyler’s health. In a statement posted on the band’s official website, Tyler wrote: “I give you all an A+ for creative musings but I definitely didn’t have a heart attack or seizure (unless Joe Perry is taking the lead). Sorry to cut short the tour but I had to have a procedure that only my doctor can perform in the US.”
“He went on to add: “It broke my heart to leave this tour early. The band has never played better. Just watch 100,000 people at Rock in Rio. We went to Tel Aviv… to Russia… to Rio… and everything in between… I guess it’s true what they say, ‘that life sucks when we’re pissed’.”
