Tyler Mane is the 59-year-old actor, best known for his roles in Rob Zombie Halloween Movies and originals X-Men The film revealed that he had breast cancer.
Mane took to Instagram to announce his “extremely rare” diagnosis on Tuesday. “I have some bad news: I’m starting chemotherapy today. One in 750 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and I’m one of them,” he said in a video. “Because it’s rarely talked about, it’s usually discovered in later stages and has worse outcomes. I want to change that.”
He also said he would document his journey to “kick this thing in the ass.”
Mani wrote in a comment on his post: “Yes. I have breast cancer. And yes, it is very rare. Only 1% of breast cancer cases are men.” “I’ll be honest, my first reaction was to keep it a secret. I mean, it’s kind of embarrassing. But then I found out that men are more likely to be diagnosed in advanced stages because it’s not talked about and it’s not looked for. In fact, my doctors all said no to it, and it was only because my wife pushed me to remove the tumor I had early.”
In a second video on Instagram, the actor shared an emotional video, thanking his supporters and noting that he had “happy tears.”
“Thank you so much for all the love everyone. I appreciate it so much. I got this. I’m going to kick cancer. Thank you for coming on this journey,” he wrote in the video’s caption. “We need to spread awareness. Cancer is bad, but if you get over it fast enough, you can win this battle.”
On Wednesday, Manny shared an update on his third day of chemo on Instagram: “If you’re going through anything bad right now – you and I got this! It’s time to kick some ass!!”
