Two veteran ABC shows have their spots reserved on the 2026-27 schedule.
The network has renewed the dramas Rising and Will Trent For next season. Pickups ensure the ninth season of Risingstarring Nathan Fillion, and a fifth season of Will TrentWhich stars Ramon Rodriguez.
The renewals don’t come as a huge surprise, as both shows have performed well for ABC. With a week of cross-platform viewing (primarily on Hulu), Rising and Will Trent Averaging more than 8 million viewers per episode, both shows rank in the top 15 network entertainment series among adults ages 18-49. Rising In particular, it gets a huge boost to its 18-49 rating from live streaming, often seeing a six-fold increase from its initial on-air total.
Rising Produced by Lionsgate Television in association with 20th TV. Fillion stars with Mekia Cox, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neill, Eric Winter, Jenna Dewan, Shawn Ashmore, Lyseth Chavez, and Derek Augustine. Series creator Alexi Hawley executive produces with Mark Gordon, Fillion, Michelle Chapman, Bill Norcross, Bryn Malone, Moira Kirland, Bill Rowe and John Steinberg.
ABC also ordered a pilot for a spin-off from Rising. Titled Rising: Northstarring Jay Ellis as the oldest rookie in the Washington State Police Department.
Along with Rodriguez, Will Trent Stars Erika Christensen, Iantha Richardson, Jake McLaughlin, Kevin Daniels and Sonia Sohn. The series is based on the novels by Karen Slaughter. Showrunners Liz Heldens, Daniel Thomsen and Karen Rosenthal executive produce with Karen Slaughter, Uli Obst, Jason Ensler, Ellen Marie Bloom and Rodriguez.
