Actress Eva Grover, known for her popular TV shows including Karishma Ka Karishma, Kora Kaagaz and Sapna Babul Ka Beidai, has spoken candidly about her previous marriage to Haider Ali Khan, Aamir Khan’s half-brother.
In a recent interview, she claimed that what started as a whirlwind romance eventually turned into years of domestic violence, emotional turmoil and personal loss. While the couple has been divorced for a long time, Eva also claimed that Haider is now going through hard times and is struggling to meet even basic needs.Eva recalled that she and Heider eloped because their relationship was interfaith. According to her, he proposed just 19 days after they met for the first time, and they married shortly after that.
During the interview, Eva claimed that Heider had schizophrenia, a condition she said she knew nothing about at the time of their wedding.“On the third day of our marriage, I witnessed the first bout of violence. He was schizophrenic, but at the time I didn’t really understand what schizophrenia meant. I barely knew Haider. In the 18 days before our wedding, I only saw his chivalrous side. But on the third day of our marriage, he started hitting me during our intimate moment.
“At the time, I couldn’t understand why this was happening,” she claimed in an interview with Siddharth Kannan.Eva also claimed that Haider’s mental health issues, combined with excessive alcohol consumption and disillusionment after quitting his job to pursue acting, led to a steady decline in their relationship. She also said his parents had tried unsuccessfully to stop the alleged abuse.“There were bruises. I was in shock. My father-in-law and mother-in-law tried to make him understand.
They even cried in front of him and asked why he was behaving this way.”She also claimed that Hyder became increasingly suspicious and frequently accused her of incidents that only existed in his imagination. She added: “He began to have obsessive thoughts that were not real. He would imagine that I was sitting with the driver or would accuse me of things that only existed in his imagination. From morning until evening he would drink alcohol.”
Despite the alleged abuse, Eva said she stayed in the marriage for five years hoping things would improve.
She believed the parents could strengthen their relationship, but said the situation got worse after their daughter was born.“There was a lot of violence in my marriage. I tried so hard to save it. I even thought having a baby would make everything better, but instead, things got worse.
As soon as my daughter was born, divorce proceedings began and I was returned to my mother’s house.Eva claimed her injuries were serious enough to be noticed by those around her, and credited her relatives and colleagues with encouraging her to leave the marriage.“My uncle, the shooting unit members, and everyone around me convinced my mother that I was in a terrible state. I had bruises all over my body.
They said I wouldn’t survive if I stayed there. “In the end, I got divorced,” she said.The actress also spoke about the emotional toll of being separated from her daughter. She said the child initially stayed with her until the age of three, after which custody was transferred permanently to the Haider family after weekend visits with her father allegedly became increasingly difficult.“I stayed silent for so long that in all of this chaos, my daughter was handed over to that family permanently when she was three years old.
“I didn’t see her for the next 10 years because I had no support,” she said.Eva added that although she was not able to meet her daughter for ten years, she continued to support her financially by contributing to her education.“I endured physical abuse for five years. My daughter was not with me. I did not see her for 10 years. I secretly sent money every month for her education. She is now 19 and visits me once or twice a week.
“She is much more mature than I was at her age,” Eva said.During the same interview, Eva also spoke about Aamir Khan’s relationship with the family’s Haider Ali Khan. She claimed that Aamir was aware that she was facing problems in her marriage.She added: “I heard that Mr. Amer said that I did not make the right decision. I received this message before my marriage through other sources, but I did not pay attention.”Eva also claimed that Aamer has largely stayed away from that side of the family. She explained that Haider and his sister are not Tahir Hussain’s biological children, but they are from his second wife, Shehnaz Khan’s previous marriage.She also claimed that during Tahir Hussain’s last days, Aamir took him to Pune to take care of him and that Haider’s mother, Shehnaaz Khan, was not allowed to meet him despite their close relationship.“Syed Aamir Khan did not want to have anything to do with this family. When Tahir Abu was in his last stage, he took him to Pune and kept him there. Even my ex-mother-in-law, whom Tahir Hussain loved, was not allowed to meet him,” Eva alleged.Eva claimed that her former mother-in-law’s health deteriorated in the following years, and that she eventually suffered a brain hemorrhage and died.Before concluding her interview, Eva Grover said that despite the pain she allegedly went through during her marriage, she still felt sympathy for her ex-husband.
According to her, Haider Ali Khan is currently facing severe financial hardship and is struggling to make ends meet.“Today, Haidar is not well. He has no home and struggles even to get food. Sometimes someone lets him stay in a shawl, sometimes a friend helps him. I feel sad. Everything that happened, happened, but from a human point of view, he was once my husband.”Eva also claimed that Hyder was left without proper care and is surrounded by people who continue to enable his drinking habits.“He is surrounded by people who keep giving him alcohol. There is no one to take care of him. I just pray that he finds peace when his time comes. He has suffered so much.”
