Speaking about working with his son Junaid Khan, Aamir Khan revealed that the young actor chose to build his career independently without using his father’s name or influence in the industry.Speaking to Zee Music Company, Aamir said that Junaid deliberately stayed away from tapping into his family background and instead went through auditions and rejections on his own.“He is not trying to imitate me at all. Woh mujhe bilkul follow bhi nahi karta jis Tarah maine apna career kiya hai. Woh bilkul apna path khud bana raha hai,” Aamir said.
“Media main kisi ko pata nahi tha yeh mera beta hai”
The actor revealed that Junaid trained in theater before moving to Mumbai and regularly meets casting directors for auditions. According to Aamir, very few people in the industry knew that Junaid was his son at that time.“Usne Seekha theatre. Uske baad Bombay aake theater kiya aur casting directors se milta tha.”
Media mein itna usko kisi ne dekha bhi nahi tha. They did not know that he was my son. He said main bhi kabhi kisi ko pattaya nahi.Aamir added that Junaid faced multiple rejections before finally landing on Maharaj.“8-10 Dafa Woh rejects Hwa Min auditions. Role suit hona zarori bhi hota hai. Finally usko Maharaj mili,” he shared. The star also pointed out that he himself got to know about Junaid’s casting through director Aditya Chopra.
“Adi ne mujhe bola, I have auditioned your son for a film and I am shooting a film with him.” “Toh mein kaha, oh, surprise!” Aamir said.
“He doesn’t like using my name.”
Amer stressed that Junaid always preferred to create his own identity instead of relying on his father’s stardom.“He doesn’t like using my name. He doesn’t like using mine,” the actor said frankly. The actor also explained why he felt Junaid was the perfect choice for the role, saying that the character’s shy and introverted personality naturally matched his son’s real-life behaviour.“He is a bit eccentric in real life too. Introvert hai ladka, shy hai… Mohi laga is the right actor for this role and he has done a fantastic job,” Aamir shared.
“I’m trying to make up for lost time.”
During the interaction, Aamir also got emotional while talking about fatherhood and admitted that he regretted not spending enough time with his children due to his career.“Mujhe lagta hai maine apne bachchon ko itna waqt nahi dya. Ab main make up karne ki koshish kar raha hoon,” he admitted.Describing the opportunity to work with Junaid as very emotional, Aamir added, “Yeh ek Tarah se pehli opportunity mili hai as a father ki main kuch karun apne bete ke liye. I am very grateful for it.”However, the actor made it clear that he would never rope in his family members in films unless they were truly suitable for the role.“Meri mein aisa kabhi nahi hoga movies ki main apne bete ko le loon, apni Family ko le loon jab tak woh film ke liye sahi na ho. Main usmein bilkul believe nahi karta,” he concluded.
