Aamir Khan reveals he doesn't like attending film screenings because he can't lie: 'I'll say bohot bakwaas thi'

Aamir Khan recently spoke candidly about why he avoids attending film screenings and thus revealed that he finds it difficult to pretend if he does not enjoy the film. The actor explained that providing harsh comments just days before a film’s release is often meaningless because filmmakers no longer have enough time to make major changes.“I see very few films, which is very strange. But that’s the way it has been since my childhood. I never watched them. But I read a lot, so that’s kind of compensation,” Aamir said at the Screen Academy Masterclass hosted by Whistling Woods International. Explaining his reluctance to attend preview screenings, he added: “One of the reasons I don’t watch films is because I don’t know how to lie. If someone asks me about the film, I will say ‘Bahoot Bakwas Thi Yaar’.”

Pak gaya main. (It was so terrible. I was bored to death.) “It will show on my face.”

According to Amer, filmmakers often invite their colleagues to screenings just a week before release, which doesn’t leave much room for helpful feedback. “They call you a week before the release. You can’t even contribute anything last minute. It will only ruin their sleep.”During the discussion, Aamir also shared a humorous piece of advice that veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar once gave him. Recalling the anecdote, Aamir said Javed suggested using the phrase “You’ve outdone yourself” when responding diplomatically to a bad film.

“It means you have made such bad films, that you have outdone yourself there. This could mean anything,” Aamir joked. The actor also urged young filmmakers to stay open during test screenings and avoid getting defensive when audiences share criticism. According to him, viewers stop being honest the moment they feel resistance to their opinions. While admitting that criticism can be difficult to hear, Amer stressed that accepting it is essential to improve the film before its release. On the work front, Aamir was last seen in Sitaare Zameen Par. He is now gearing up for the sequel to 3 Idiots, which is expected to reunite him with director Rajkumar Hirani. The project is currently in the pre-production stage, and the original trio – Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, and…
