Good Friday bank holiday: Where do the banks close today, 3 April 2026? Check the state wise list

Public holidays can sometimes be confusing because they vary from state to state in the country, depending on local events and festivals. Because holidays are determined by a mix of national events and regional festivals, there is no single calendar that bank branches across the country follow uniformly.

Since April has just begun, many customers are wondering if banks will still be closed on April 3.On April 3, 2026, banks will remain closed in most parts of the country, due to Good Friday. However, branches will continue to operate in Tripura, Chandigarh, Assam, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir. The intermittent nature of the lockdowns will continue through April, with multiple festivals impacting operations in different regions.

Upcoming public holidays in April 2026:

April 14: Banks will be closed in most parts of the country for occasions like Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Maha Vishwa Sankranti, Biju, Boisu festival, Tamil New Year Day, Bohag Bihu, Chirupa and Baisakhi. However, branches will remain open in Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh.April 15: More closures are on the way for banks in Tripura, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of Bengali New Year Day (Nabaparsha), Bohag Bihu, Vishu and Himachal Day.

In Assam, the Bohag Bihu holiday will extend until April 16 as well, keeping banks closed for an additional day.April 20: In the latter part of the month, Karnataka will celebrate Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya as public holidays.April 21: Tripura will witness closure of banks on Garia Puja.In addition to these dates, banks across India remain closed on all Sundays, along with the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, as part of the usual practice. With many outages occurring, customers who plan to visit bank branches for services are advised to complete their work in advance. Activities such as large cash deposits, check-related transactions, and other services that require physical presence at a branch may not be possible these days.Despite the closures, digital banking channels will continue to operate without interruption. Customers will still be able to access services such as money transfer and bill payment through online banking platforms, mobile apps, ATMs and Unified Payment Interface (UPI). However, facilities that rely on in-branch processing, including clearing cheques, issuing demand bills and high-value cash transactions, will remain unavailable during the holiday period.
