Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founded by actor-politician (late) Vijaykanth has joined the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu to fight in the upcoming Assembly elections. This was announced by party general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth after his meeting with DMK president MK Stalin on Thursday.

This may strengthen Prime Minister Stalin’s bid to retain power, while the AIADMK-BJP alliance may lose some staunch Vijaykanth loyalists.

This is the first time the DMDK has aligned with the DMK since its formation. It had previous alliances with the AIADMK and the BJP.

After meeting Stalin at the DMK headquarters, Premalatha told reporters that as everyone expected, an alliance with the DMK had been made.
