DigiYatra will expand to 27 more airports by next year, with 10 crore flights completed

DigiYatra, the facial recognition-based airport travel platform, will be rolled out at 27 more airports by next year, the Civil Aviation Ministry said on Saturday, highlighting the growing adoption of the initiative across the country, PTI reported.DigiYatra, which enables seamless and contactless movement of passengers at airports using Facial Recognition Technology (FRT), is currently available at 38 airports.The DigiYatra app has facilitated more than 10 crore seamless journeys and recorded more than 2.4 crore downloads, the ministry said in a statement.“By replacing manual document verification, the platform reduced the average airport entry processing time from 15 seconds to just 5 seconds per passenger,” she said.Annual passenger traffic through Indian airports is expected to reach Rs 50 lakh crore by 2030 and almost double to around Rs 100 lakh crore by 2040, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said.“Currently, DigiYatra is active in 38 airports and by next year, 27 more airports will be activated,” he said.The minister added that the application currently supports 11 languages, and the goal is to add support for 11 more regional languages ​​by the end of this year.The ministry also said that passenger data shared through DigiYatra remains encrypted and is stored securely on the user’s device. Data is only shared for a limited period with the originating airport for instant verification purposes.
