Hey Delhi commuters, your next CNG refill is set to cost a little more!Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) hiked rates by Re 1 per kg across its network on Sunday, marking the second hike in just 48 hours.

With the latest revision effective from 6:00 am on Sunday, CNG prices in Delhi rose to Rs 80.09 per kg, crossing the Rs 80 mark for the first time. The increase comes two days after IGL had already raised CNG prices by Rs 2 per kg on Friday, when the CNG price in Delhi moved to Rs 79.09 per kg. The successive increases are set to increase transportation expenses for private vehicle owners, taxi drivers and public transportation users who rely on CNG as a relatively economical fuel option.

The CNG review comes two days after fuel prices were raised. Earlier on Friday, the Center announced an increase in petrol and diesel prices, with the price of petrol and diesel rising by around Rs 3 per liter in the national capital. After the revision, petrol in Delhi now retails at Rs 97.77 per litre, while diesel costs Rs 90.67 per litre.

As gasoline, diesel and CNG prices see an increase in prices, domestic piped natural gas prices remain unchanged from April 1, 2026 prices.

The successive increases in compressed natural gas, gasoline and diesel come amid increasing pressure on global energy markets due to escalating tensions in the Middle East and the continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, an important global energy corridor through which nearly a fifth of global oil and gas trade passes.

Do you think the government should intervene to stabilize fuel prices?

Supply concerns linked to disruptions in this narrow corridor have pushed global crude oil prices sharply higher, intensifying price pressures domestically. However, even with price revisions for gasoline, diesel and CNG, the amount is much lower compared to global crude oil prices, which have risen from $70 before the conflict to more than $100 per barrel now. India has managed to contain the increase in petrol and diesel prices despite the sharp rise in global crude oil prices. While many countries recorded increases in fuel prices ranging from 20% to nearly 100%, petrol and diesel prices in India rose by only 3.2% and 3.4% respectively.
