The government is aware of the challenges faced by the Indian IT industry due to artificial intelligence (AI) and is working with academia to upskill and retrain talent, Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnao said on Thursday.
Speaking at the opening session of the AI Impact Summit India 2026, Vaishnaw said that the Prime Minister recently announced a major policy shift aimed at attracting the world’s data to India, to reside in India, to be processed here and to provide high-value services to the world.
“We recognize the challenges our IT industry faces, and to mitigate them, we are working with industry and academia to upskill and reskill and build a new talent pipeline for this new age of intelligence,” he said.
He said that artificial intelligence is a fundamental technology and is already changing the way we work, learn and make decisions.
“Our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, believes that the true value of technology lies in ensuring that the masses benefit. Our Prime Minister’s vision is to democratize technology, disseminate it widely, and make it accessible to all,” Vaishnau noted.
He pointed out that there are 118 countries participating in this summit.
Vaishnao also said that the Prime Minister has always shown commitment towards clean energy and at present India has more than 50 per cent of its power generation capacity from clean sources.
“Our visionary Prime Minister recently reformed the nuclear power sector, which is another very good sector to provide this base load of clean energy. We have a robust grid that has been practically rebuilt over the past decade,” he added.
The opening session of the AI Impact Summit in India was attended by top global technology executives, including Sundar Pichai (Alphabet, Google), Sam Altman (OpenAI), Demis Hassabis (Google DeepMind Technologies), and Dario Amodei (CEO, Anthropic).
