Trump confirms Netanyahu's visit to the United States next week amid regional tensions

Trump’s comments came in his speech during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Friday.

US President Donald Trump said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will visit the United States next week, as US forces continue to bomb parts of Iran after peace talks faltered despite weeks of talks and the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.Trump’s comments came in his speech during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Friday.Netanyahu and Trump agreed to meet in the United States a few weeks ago after a phone conversation. During the call, Netanyahu congratulated Trump on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and praised the close relationship between the two countries. This comes as the US-Israeli war with Iran escalates again after the collapse of a ceasefire earlier this month as part of a memorandum of understanding signed by the US and Iran.Israel has opposed the agreement from the beginning, while its ongoing military operations in Lebanon have repeatedly threatened diplomatic efforts in the region. The Trump administration is also mediating separate talks between Israel and Lebanon aimed at ending hostilities. The negotiations do not include Hezbollah. The two sides agreed to a proposal under which Israeli-controlled areas in southern Lebanon would eventually be handed over to the Lebanese army.

However, there has been no noticeable progress on the ground since March.During a meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun earlier this week, Trump did not indicate when Israeli forces would withdraw from the occupied territories.Meanwhile, the US military said its Central Command completed the 13th consecutive night of strikes against targets in Iran.Iran continued to respond with attacks on US military assets throughout the region.

Last week, a raid on a US base in Jordan killed three American soldiers. The United States has also increased its military deployment in Israel, a move that some analysts believe may signal preparations for a broader regional escalation.Netanyahu’s visit will also come in light of the ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza. Despite a US-backed ceasefire declaration last October, Israeli forces continued to issue evacuation orders and carry out repeated strikes across the region.
