The Union government is planning to make stringent amendments to the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, people familiar with the details said on Friday.
The union cabinet will meet on Friday to approve the bill that is likely to include provisions such as extended prison sentences and severe penalties for those convicted of organized paper leaks and other unfair means, a person familiar with the details said.
Late Thursday night, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a video message, said the Cabinet would take up the issue of paper leaks and discuss a draft law to check irregularities in exams.
He expressed his hope that the draft law on this issue would be passed next week of the current monsoon period.
The Prime Minister said in a video message that after directing the establishment of fast-track courts, he has been handed over a draft bill that will be discussed in the Cabinet on Friday.

“This is not an ordinary case. It is a painful moment for millions of students and their parents. In the past two and a half months, many steps have been taken…the accused are in prison,” he said.
Tens of thousands of protesters marched to Parliament in central Delhi on Monday to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over repeated paper leaks and examination irregularities.
