Rahul Gandhi appeared on stage wearing a black band on his right arm, in line with the opposition’s all-black appearance in Parliament today.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is unable to hold the post anymore and “the door should be opened for him”, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said on Wednesday.
Gandhi appeared on stage wearing a black band on his right arm, in keeping with the Opposition’s all-black appearance in Parliament today as it sought a debate on the NEET-UG paper leak in the House.
In his criticism of the government, Rahul Gandhi defended students’ anger over the paper leaks. However, there was no mention of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in Gandhi’s speech. The outfit, which was created as a satire, is now the face of a massive student-led protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar seeking Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.
“The education system is rigged.”
Rahul Gandhi said that the education system was rigged and everyone was aware of it. He also claimed that 152 papers had been leaked over the past ten years, an average of one leak per month. “What we know is that there have been 152 paper leaks over the past decade. If you do the math, that means roughly one leak every month,” Gandhi said.
He also claimed that there had been no convictions over the decade despite the scale of examination irregularities. “7.5 crore students and their families are affected by this. These are middle-class and poor families. They invested their hard-earned money in this and then they literally spat on them,” Gandhi said.
He also reiterated and supported the three big demands of the students:
- Dharmendra Pradhan resignation
- Anyone who assaulted students must be held accountable.
- PM Modi should apologize to students.
