Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay is gearing up for the final leg of his cinematic journey and for this reason, ‘Jana Nayagan’ has been one of the most awaited Tamil releases of the year.
The film is directed by H. Vinoth who has not been able to deliver a very satisfying film since the release of Karthi’s Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru. With ‘Jana Nayagan’, H. Vinoth is expected to celebrate his comeback. Here’s a closer look at the main cast and the characters they portray.
The film is being led by Vijay, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol
Vijay plays the role of Thalapathy Vetri Kondan (Vetri), IPS, an upstanding police officer whose journey forms the emotional and action-packed core of the story.
The character is expected to have some similarities with Balayya’s character in Bhagavanth Kesari. Pooja Hegde plays Kayal, reuniting with Vijay after Beast. Bollywood actor Bobby Deol takes on the role of the film’s primary antagonist. His character is known by names including John Himmler, Amrish Pujari and Phoenix.
Bobby’s previous Tamil outing was ‘Kanguva’.
Mamitha Baiju and Gautham Vasudev Menon play the lead roles
One of the most talked about additions in the film is Malayalam actress Mamitha Baiju, who portrays Vijayalakshmi “Viji” Srikanth.
“I had always wanted to star in a Vijay film, but now it will definitely not happen. When I was selected for the superstar’s film, the first thought that came to my mind was: ‘Oh, now I won’t be able to play a role in a Vijay film.’Director-actor Gautham Vasudev Menon appears as Srikanth, Viji’s father and the jailer. Besides the lead cast, ‘Jana Nayagan’ features an experienced supporting ensemble, including Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Narain, Nassar, Revathi, Sunil, Reba Monica John, and Nishalgal Ravi.
Reports also suggested that the film may include a special appearance by composer Anirudh Ravichander as well as filmmakers Atlee, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Nelson. However, these appearances have not been officially confirmed by the makers of the film.
The film is backed by an accomplished crew led by composer Anirudh Ravichander, who is responsible for the songs and background score. Cinematography is handled by Sathyan Surian. With a reported budget of Rs 300 crore to Rs 500 crore, ‘Jana Nayagan’ is among the biggest productions of Vijay’s career. Meanwhile, Vijay’s previous film was ‘Goat’.
