During Hunter Biden’s interview with far-right influencer Nick Fuentes — which was filmed in a Philadelphia studio designed to resemble a crummy hotel room earlier this month — the two opposing political players touched on a range of topics including Holocaust denial, race in America, and artificial superintelligence, according to a trailer for the Channel 5 interview shared exclusively with Hollywood Reporter.
News of the unexpected meeting between Biden and Fuentes — and in a moment that appears to have become so heated, the conversation nearly turned violent — made headlines when it was revealed last week. The interview was brokered by Andrew Callahan, the founder and host of Channel 5, an offbeat news channel on YouTube, and his publicist, after Fuentes reached out looking to do an interview that would change perceptions of his brand, and Biden, who teamed up with Callahan for an interview that could “move the needle” in American politics.
In the trailer, Biden appears to be making good on a promise he recently made during an appearance on CNN IHIP News podcast, to ask Fuentes — who has promoted white nationalism and white supremacy in his video broadcast — why he’s a Nazi, or at least the question asked by Fuentes, who asked Biden about his interest in the topic in the opening line of the trailer.
The 1-minute and 25-second clip consists of a series of clips from a long and wide-ranging discussion between the two men. He jumps from hot topics like the DEI debate to race and the Great Replacement theory to Holocaust denial — a view that has become synonymous with Fuentes and his brand, but has changed over time, he says.
“Regarding Jews, in general, I believe that every person in the country should be treated with dignity and respect and have their civil rights,” Fuentes says in the trailer.
Also coming is New York Mayor Zahran Mamdani and his final speech at the city’s Fourth of July celebration, in which Fuentes complains about his non-white guests, before the two arrived in the Trump administration. Donald Trump Jr.’s record loan from the Department of Defense is also discussed, followed by the president, and Biden offers a stark reading of Trump.
He said: “What about the damned Donald Trump? There is no ideological substance.”
Biden’s stated goal was to reach Fuentes’ growing audience of young people known for their devotion to the video broadcaster. He also said he was seeking to find common ground through the interview, a sentiment that closes the trailer.
“I want to find common ground on how stupid Donald Trump is,” Biden says. “We can get there.”
The Biden-Fuentes interview is scheduled to be broadcast on Channel 5 later this month; The exact date has not been announced yet.
On Monday, Channel 5 also launched C5.NOW, which it describes in a press release provided to THR As a “completely new independent streaming platform…for outside documentary makers and independent filmmakers outside of Hollywood.”
C5.NOW was born out of Callaghan’s frustrations with streaming services. He said in his statement that major streaming platforms censor filmmakers and provide little funding for documentary content.
“You are only as free as the platform’s terms of service,” Callahan says in the video announcement for the new platform. “It’s smart to establish a foothold outside the censored internet. It’s time to have a backup plan now. Worse than the social media platforms themselves in terms of censorship is the Hollywood establishment, which I would describe as a disgusting, nepotistic, limited world of godless narcissists.”
C5.NOW will launch with five documentaries, all of which embody Channel 5’s ethos of untold stories and gonzo journalism.
