Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Andy Burnham on taking over as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, expressing confidence and pledging to work closely with him to further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership and advance the shared Vision 2035 for closer cooperation across multiple sectors.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the strong foundation of India-UK relations, noting that the two countries share democratic values and maintain wide-ranging cooperation in key sectors, including trade, investment, technology, defence, and people-to-people exchanges.
“My warmest congratulations to Mr. Andy Burnham on becoming Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. India and the United Kingdom are bound by shared democratic values and enjoy wide-ranging cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, technology, defense and people-to-people relations,” the post read.

Prime Minister Modi also stressed the importance of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) that came into effect this month, saying it would provide new impetus to bilateral relations and enhance cooperation between the two countries.
“With the Comprehensive Trade and Investment Agreement coming into force this month, our bilateral partnership is poised to grow even stronger. I look forward to working closely with you to further deepen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and advance our shared Vision 2035,” the circular added.
Andy Burnham became Britain’s 59th Prime Minister on Monday after Keir Starmer tendered his resignation at Buckingham Palace in a major political overhaul amid political and economic instability in the UK.

Burnham, 56, after becoming Prime Minister, arrived at 10 Downing Street, accompanied by his wife, Marie-France van Heel, and made his first remarks to a public tired of political instability.
“Britain needs to show the world that we can get our stability back,” he stressed in his maiden speech, as the Labor leader became the UK’s seventh prime minister in a decade.
He said, “Britain must show the world that we are capable of restoring our stability again, and this is the challenge facing us to make politics successful, and make it work better. I know that people at home are tired of politics.”

Burnham promised to act as a “circuit breaker for Britain, by bringing about the biggest changes of the last forty years”.
He added: “I am fully aware that I am the sixth person in the past 10 years to walk down this street – the seventh Prime Minister since 2016 – which makes this a moment for reflection and a new decision.”
