BFI Imax was the premier Imax venue in both the UK and international markets from July 17-19, as Christopher Nolan’s three-hour epic – shot entirely on Imax cameras – was finally released.
The three-day gross reached £219,867 (US$296,147) from a single screen, the biggest opening weekend box office result of any venue for Imax in the UK and abroad. Over the course of eight weeks, 173 consecutive Imax 70mm showings are sold out, with audiences traveling to London from as far away as Singapore, Los Angeles and Toronto to see the film. BFI IMAX said on Monday that additional dates are expected to be added in response to unprecedented global demand.
