Sunny Deol says playing Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is a big responsibility. At a Delhi event on July 18, he admitted that his work has only just begun, describing the role as “not easy” but one he will enjoy. He has sought fans’ blessings for the two-part saga, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash.
Sunny Deol reveals that playing Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana comes with a great sense of responsibility. Speaking at a promotional event for the film at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on July 18, the actor said that he has only completed a small portion of his work so far and still has a long way to go.
The Delhi event marked an important moment in the promotion of the two-part saga. The first chapter of the film was filmed for IMAX, and is scheduled to be released in 2026, with the final part arriving in 2027.
Sunny Deol says he still has a long way to go
The actor told everyone that he has just started working on ‘Ramayana’ and there is still a lot to do before he can truly understand the role. “To be honest, I have done very little work on the film so far. I still have a long way to go,” he said.
For Sunny, the huge scale of the film is just one part of the challenge. He said that “Ramayana” means a lot to people in India, which makes playing one of the most beloved characters an even greater responsibility than an ordinary film role.
He also thanked the makers for casting him in this role, saying, “I am grateful that I got the opportunity to play the role of Hanuman ji. I will make every effort to portray him in the right way.”Deol explained that this role is not an easy one. He pointed out that Hanuman cannot be defined by physical strength alone.
The character embodies qualities that seem to conflict with each other: great strength coupled with humility, courage coupled with innocence, and strength balanced with deep devotion. “Playing Hanuman ji is not easy,” said Sunny. “But I know I will enjoy it very much. It is fun, innocent and strong.
He is loved by everyone and above all, he is a devotee of Lord Ram.”

The actor also admitted that public speaking is not easy for him. Once he finished talking about Hanuman, he admitted that facing such a large crowd made him a little uncomfortable. However, he took the opportunity to ask the audience to support the team. “We need all of your blessings because we have undertaken such a huge project,” he said. Sunny also expressed his belief that Ramayana will connect with viewers nationwide.
“I firmly believe that every Indian will watch it,” he added.
