Aamir Khan responds to ‘Love Jihad’ controversy amid fatwa, says Gauri Spratt, Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao never changed their religion: ‘Life gets more comical with time’

Aamir Khan has strongly refuted the claims calling him a ‘Love Jihad brand ambassador’, asserting that religion has never affected his family’s marriages. The actor, who married his long-time partner Jori Spratt in an intimate, recorded ceremony on July 5, said all his marriages were civil unions and none of his partners had changed their religion.

His statements come at a time when his marriage to Gauri sparked political and religious controversy on the Internet.

Aamir Khan says his family believes in inclusivity

Speaking to Subhash K Jha for Deccan Chronicle, Aamir highlighted that interfaith marriage has long been a part of his family and stressed that religious conversion was never a condition for any such relationships.Responding to these accusations, he said: “The truth is that our family is very inclusive. My two sisters are married to Hindus, and my daughter is also married to a Hindu.”

My cousin Mansour is married to a Christian woman.”The “Taare Zameen Par” actor also clarified that neither his current wife Gauri Sprat nor his ex-wives, Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, converted to Islam after marriage. “Neither Gauri nor Kiran nor Reena changed their religion, as we had civil marriages. Gauri is not even a Hindu, she is a Christian, not even a devout Christian at that. Life gets more comical with time.”

For the unversed, Aamir Khan was married to Reena Dutta from 1986 to 2002 before marrying director Kiran Rao in 2005. The two separated in 2021 but continued to co-parent their son.

Aamir Khan’s third marriage also raises religious controversy

The actor’s latest comments come days after his marriage to Jori Spratt became a topic of controversy. According to ANI, Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, the Shahi mufti of the Islamic Personal Fatwa House, reportedly issued a fatwa against Aamer over his interfaith marriage, claiming it was not permitted under his interpretation of Sharia law because Gauri is not a Muslim.

In a video clip circulating online, the cleric said: “Muslim mard ki li, imaan walon ki li, ger muslim se shaadi karna haram hai.

The clerics also stated that it is a sin for a Muslim man to marry a non-Muslim woman, and added that those who refuse to acknowledge it as a sin will ultimately be accountable to God. So far, Aamir Khan has not issued any reaction to the cleric’s statements, and his team has also remained silent.
