Veteran actress Zeenat Aman has extended her support to teacher and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and appealed to the government to start dialogue as his hunger strike continues indefinitely in Delhi. In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Aman expressed concern about Wangchuk’s health and urged authorities to address his demands through peaceful discussions.

The actress posted a photo of Wangchuk on Instagram and said her thoughts are with him as he continues his fast in the national capital.Referring to reports of his deteriorating health, Aman highlighted his call for dialogue with the government. “My thoughts today are in the nation’s capital as @wangchuksworld enters the 17th day of his indefinite hunger strike.”She also cited reports that Wangchuk’s condition had deteriorated, and recalled his reaction when people urged him to end his fast.

“Don’t ask me to end my fast. Ask the government why they don’t even engage in dialogue.”

Zeenat Aman highlights Sonam Wangchuk’s contributions

In her post, Aman described Sonam Wangchuk as the founder of SECMOL, creator of the Ice Stupa initiative, an education advocate in Ladakh and a committed environmental activist. She also noted that Wangchuk inspired the character Phunsukh Wangdu, portrayed by Aamir Khan in 3 Idiots, while acknowledging the global appreciation he has received for his work.

The veteran actress called for constructive engagement and urged the government to open discussions with Wangchuk in line with his request.“With regard to Mr. Wangchuk’s wishes, I appeal to the Indian government to open a dialogue on this issue that concerns the future of the entire India. We must not become a society that sits back and watches the sacrifice of one of its greatest minds. India has a long history of peaceful protest; those who exercise power have an obligation to counter such protest with peaceful dialogue.”Concluding her note, the veteran actress wrote: “My respect and best wishes to everyone.”Zeenat Aman joins a growing list of public figures who have spoken out about the Wangchuk protest. Earlier, actor Omi Vaidya, known for playing Chatur in the film ‘3 Idiots’, shared an emotional video in support of the activist.

About protest

According to the Kokrawach Janta Party (CJP), which is leading the agitation, Wangchuk has reportedly lost nearly 9kg since he began his indefinite fast.

The protest, which began on June 20, focuses on alleged irregularities in the NEET exam. Wangchuk joined the demonstration on 28 June.The organization has demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and sought compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide after the examination controversy. The CJP also announced a peaceful march to Parliament on July 20, coinciding with the opening day of the monsoon session.
