Tamil Nadu and Perambur Chief Minister MLA C Joseph Vijay on Monday paid his maiden visit to his Assembly constituency after assuming office, inaugurating a series of development projects and reviewing infrastructure works in the district.

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president won from both Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East in the Assembly elections held on April 23. As per the law, he resigned from the Tiruchirappalli East seat and retained Perambur, where he is now an MLA.
Before his resignation from Tiruchirappalli East seat, Vijay visited the constituency to thank voters and assure them of their continued support for its development. The Election Commission has since declared the seat vacant, and the constituency is expected to go to by-polls in the coming months.
During his maiden visit to Perambur as MLA, Vijay inaugurated the renovated constituency office and e-Seva centre, and chaired a review meeting with senior government officials on the development projects planned for the constituency.
Perambur, in north Chennai, includes Kodungaiyur, Vyasarpadi, Peravallur, Kosapet and Kanigapuram. It is home to the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), along with several automotive companies and SMEs.
Perambur is traditionally a DMK stronghold, and Vijay was elected in the Assembly elections by 1,20,365 votes. He defeated senior DMK leader R D Shekhar by a margin of 53,715 votes.
During the visit, Vijay also inspected a fair price shop and officially launched the statewide distribution of new e-ration cards to eligible families who had applied for them.
The renovated MLA office has been equipped with new facilities, including ramps to improve accessibility for people with disabilities.
At the e-Seva centre, Vijay handed over documents to beneficiaries availing government services. The center provides 275 services from various government departments.
The Prime Minister also inspected the Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s electric bus depot at Perambur, which was built at a cost $47.50 Crores.
During the inspection, Vijay directed the officials to procure low-floor air-conditioned electric buses to improve passenger services.
