A horrific case has emerged in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur city, where a woman accidentally consumed acid after a shopkeeper handed her an apparently sealed bottle of water late last week.
The woman is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Meerut where she is said to be in a critical condition. The incident took place at a jewelery shop in Hapur and was recorded on CCTV cameras installed there. Pictures of the woman accidentally consuming acid were widely circulated on social media platforms.

The alleged incident occurred when the woman went to buy jewelery with her mother in Arjun Nagar area where she asked the shopkeeper for water. Live Hindustan reported that the store owner sent an employee to bring a bottle of water from a nearby sweet shop. The store owner reportedly took the water bottle out of the refrigerator and gave it to the jewelry worker.

Surveillance camera footage from inside the jewelry store shows the woman opening the water bottle and pouring its contents into her mouth, assuming it is water, while her mother stands next to her.
However, moments later she was seen writhing in pain and rushing out of the store as the acid may have started damaging her mouth, throat and other parts of her digestive system.
HT was unable to independently verify the authenticity of the video.
As the woman’s condition deteriorated, people gathered around the store and informed her family, who then transferred her to a nearby hospital. She was later referred to Meerut for advanced treatment.

The police are investigating the case, and a preliminary investigation revealed that the bottle of acid may have been brought by mistake instead of water. An investigation is underway into how and where the acid bottle arrived among the water bottles, although the store owner said the bottle was sealed and received among the water bottle collection.
The owner of the sweets was arrested by the police and is being interrogated in this case.
