A man wanted for the murder of his wife and two daughters in the UK has been arrested in South Africa after an international manhunt

Suspect arrested in UK triple murders

A 45-year-old British-Zimbabwean national has been arrested in South Africa on suspicion of murdering his wife and two young daughters in the UK, sparking a high-profile international manhunt.South African police confirmed that Ndodana Makhanyisi Chuma was arrested on Friday in Kensington, a suburb of Johannesburg, after authorities tracked him down through coordinated efforts involving Interpol and law enforcement agencies from several countries.Officials said he left Britain via Heathrow Airport on a British passport two days before the bodies were discovered.Police spokeswoman Athlinda Mathie said the suspect will appear before a South African court on Monday while authorities begin the legal and extradition process with the United Kingdom.

UK prosecutors approve three murder charges

The UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it had authorized three murder charges against Chuma after reviewing evidence provided by Bedfordshire Police.Detective Inspector Lee Martin said the investigation progressed quickly with the assistance of the National Crime Agency, Interpol and authorities in South Africa and Zimbabwe.“Thanks to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved, we were quickly able to locate and arrest Ndudana Makhanyesi Tshoma,” Martin said.

CPS Senior Prosecutor Emma Davies said the charging decision came after a careful assessment of the evidence, adding that prosecutors’ thoughts remain with the victims’ loved ones and everyone affected by the tragedy.

The victims were found in a Bedfordshire house

The victims – Nothabo Zandile Chuma, 42, Natalie, 15, and five-year-old Nala – were found dead at the family home in Great Denham, Bedfordshire, after neighbors alerted police when they were not seen for several days.Authorities believe that the suspect had already left the country before the bodies were discovered.Earlier this week, Bedfordshire Police released CCTV images of Chuma and appealed for information, initially believing he had traveled towards South Africa after leaving Heathrow Airport on July 4.

South Africa warns fugitives

When announcing the arrest, South African police issued a stern warning to fugitives trying to evade justice by entering the country.Police spokeswoman Athlinda Mathie said: “This arrest is a stern warning that South Africa is not a hideout for suspected criminals. We will track you, we will find you, we will arrest you.”She added that the suspect will be processed under South African law while extradition proceedings are coordinated with UK authorities.

The community mourns the victims

The victims’ family thanked the public for its support during what they described as an “unimaginable loss.”In a statement issued by Bedfordshire Police, family members expressed their gratitude for the prayers, messages and compassion shown by the community. She also praised the schools the two girls attended. Pilgrims Prep School described five-year-old Nala as a “ray of sunshine”, while Bedford Girls School remembered 15-year-old Natalie as a bright, outstanding student who excelled in dance, music and sport.
