Videos of LPG cylinders floating in a river after being swept away by floodwaters in Maharashtra have surfaced on social media. It broke out due to severe waterlogging at the bottling plant of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.

Viral videos also show local residents risking their lives to collect cylinders from raging waters.
“Due to heavy rainfall in the district, nearly 3,000 LPG cylinders (some filled with gas and some empty) were washed out of the LPG filling plant of Hindustan Limited Patalganga, located at Plot No. E-1/7, Additional MIDC, Chawani, Patalganga, Panvel taluka, Raigad district, and drifted into the Patalganga river,” the District Information Officer of Hindustan Pvt Ltd Patalganga, told Hindustantimes.com.
“The district administration appeals to any citizen who finds these LPG cylinders to immediately hand them over to HPCL, the nearest HPCL agent, the Tahsildar office in Khalapur, the Tahsildar office in Pen, or the office of Sub-Divisional Officer, Pen,” the spokesperson added.

How did social media react?
The video sparked a series of reactions on social media, with many wondering how such a large packaging plant could be submerged in water.
One person posted, “We had LPG issues recently due to Hormuz situation. Now LPG is floating on Patalganga river.” Another commented: “3,000 gas cylinders in the river. Warning advises the public not to touch them. Fair enough. The tougher question lies upstream: How does a bottling plant flood so easily that it empties its yard into the water?”
A third said: “This scene reminds me of the movie Pushpa.” A fourth wrote: “How negligent.”
According to reports, Raigad District Collector Kishan Gawali has appealed to locals not to approach any LPG cylinder found floating in the river or washed up on its banks. Gwale also urged people not to pick up or take any LPG cylinders home.
The tweets were also shared from the official X account of Raigad District Information Office. “Important Alert | Raigad. Due to heavy rainfall, nearly 3,000 LPG cylinders (full and empty) were washed into Patalganga river from LHPCL Patalganga LPG filling plant (Chon, Panvel). – District Collector Kishan Javale.”
