In a statement, Mhatre accused him of assault and stated that he did not raise his hand to attack the doctor.

“I regret the physical altercation that took place. I state with complete confidence that I did not raise my hand on the doctor. What is shown in the CCTV footage may look that way due to the camera angle,” Shinde Sena told ANI.

The source added that the quarrel arose because the doctor did not listen to him and spoke on the phone.

“We have been guided by Balasaheb’s teachings and have never raised our hand against women, nor will we do so in the future. This incident occurred due to systemic deficiencies within the hospital, and we will strive to address these deficiencies,” he added.

What is the situation?

Two contract doctors, Dr Vaibhav Salunkhe and Dr Shrusti Baviskar, and two nurses, Namita Upale and Dravya Giri, working at Shastri Nagar General Hospital in Dombivli, were assaulted by Mhatre and his five assistants on Monday.

The altercation occurred after doctors referred a pregnant woman to Sion Hospital for delivery due to lack of space in the neonatal intensive care unit ward of the hospital.

The assault on Dr Salunkhe and Dr Baviskar was caught on camera, and they alleged that Mhatre verbally abused them without first understanding the medical conditions.

Two nurses, Namita Upale and Dravya Giri, who intervened to protect the doctors, were also attacked.
