Alleged assaults on young children at a daycare center operating inside the Capgemini campus in Bangalore have raised waves of concern across the country over the safety of children in corporate crèches. The incident came to light after CCTV footage and videos recorded inside the facility by an informant surfaced online which showed caregivers/nannies physically and emotionally abusing young children.

According to police, the footage showed young children locked inside bathrooms, afraid to be placed inside a front-loading washing machine that had not been turned on, and being sprayed with water using a toilet jet to prevent them from crying. Following complaints from parents, Bangalore Police arrested five nursery staff and registered a case under relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and the Indian Penal Code. Young couples striving to balance their careers and parenting may now feel anxious about leaving their children in child care facilities.

“This incident is heartbreaking and deeply disturbing. Entrusting our child to someone else is one of the biggest decisions we will ever make, and incidents like this naturally raise concerns about the safety of children in daycare. While it would be wrong to judge every daycare based on the actions of a few individuals, this case highlights the urgent need for stricter regulations, comprehensive background checks on caregivers, constant CCTV monitoring, regular audits, and more transparency with parents. Every child deserves to be cared for. With love, dignity and safety. As future parents, we hope this incident becomes a turning point that strengthens childcare standards across the country so that no family experiences such a trauma,” says Gaurav Pandey, 32, a software engineer who recently became a father.

As families deal with anxiety over childcare, daycare centers across Mumbai are working to reassure parents about the safety of children. “The recent incident in Bengaluru is extremely disturbing and heartbreaking. As childcare professionals, we strongly condemn any form of abuse or neglect towards children. Every child deserves to be cared for in a safe, loving and respectful environment. Incidents like these impact parents’ trust in daycare centres, which is why we believe every childcare facility should adhere to the highest standards of daycare,” says Tejashree Patel, representative from Swamiaai Daycare & Babysitting, Mumbai. Safety, ethics and accountability.”

While she admits that after the recent incident, a few parents naturally expressed concern, she believes trust is built through transparency and communication. When asked if the daycare follows any hiring process that ensures child safety, the representative said, “Yes. We follow a structured hiring process. Each employee goes through a detailed interview, reference check, and background check, where applicable, before joining. Our caregivers also receive training on childcare practices, child safety, hygiene, emergency response, and proper child behavior management. We hire people who truly care about children and demonstrate patience, compassion, and professionalism.”
