A man wearing a mask resembling Prime Minister Narendra Modi allegedly tried to rob a mobile phone shop in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district. His attempt failed, but not before the entire event was captured on camera.

The thief wearing a Modi mask was caught on CCTV trying to break into the mobile phone store. The incident took place on Sunday night in Karida police station area in Bhilwara.
CCTV footage showed the man trying to break the lock of a mobile phone store using an iron bar while wearing a mask popular at political rallies that shows the prime minister’s face.
According to police officials quoting a PTI report, the accused was unable to break the lock and left the place after several attempts. The entire incident was captured on a surveillance camera installed near the store.
Puran Mal Meena, Karida station house officer, told PTI that the suspect covered his face with a Narendra Modi mask during the robbery attempt.
“The person who was seen trying to steal was wearing a mask bearing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s face. However, in the footage captured from other CCTV cameras in the area, his face was visible and efforts are being made to identify him,” Meena told PTI.
Poll a day?
Police officials noted that the same person was seen moving in the area during the day without a Narendra Modi mask and in the same clothes.
The SHO also stated that a mobile phone shop located about 800 meters from the site of the attempted break-in was robbed on the same night. However, police have not yet determined whether the man seen in the CCTV footage was involved in that robbery.
“CCTV footage is not available from the shop where the robbery took place. Therefore, it is not yet clear whether the same person is involved in this incident,” the SHO said.
Police said that efforts are continuing to identify and trace the suspect.
