Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s meteoric rise has made him one of the most exciting young prospects in Indian cricket, as the 15-year-old continues to attract widespread attention after a sensational run over the past few months. His fearless approach first made headlines during IPL 2026, where he amassed 776 runs for Rajasthan Royals while taking on some of the best bowlers in the world with remarkable confidence. The teenager bolstered his credentials in India A’s tri-series final against Sri Lanka A, producing one of the most devastating innings in List A cricket. Sooryavanshi made 94 off just 29 deliveries, reaching his fifty in just 11 balls to score the fastest half-century in the history of the format.

These performances earned him his maiden call-up to the senior Indian T20I squad for the ongoing tour of Ireland, marking another milestone in his fast-developing career.

Although many expected him to make his international debut in the inaugural T20I tournament, the Indian team management chose to stick with the opening pair who played a key role in the country’s win in the 2026 T20 World Cup.Despite missing out on a place in the starting XI, Sooryavanshi has already made a strong impression within the Indian dressing room. Opener Abhishek Sharma revealed that the team did their best to ensure the youngster felt welcome and highlighted their keenness to absorb as much knowledge as possible.

“As a team, I think it’s our responsibility to make him comfortable. Obviously he’s young and what I felt is that he’s very curious to play all the time. He’s just learning now. He’s asking questions, so I feel like he has that in him, where he wants to learn a lot of things, and it’s obviously a dream for him as well. So we’re doing our best to make him feel like he belongs in the group.”

He told reporters after the first T20I.India’s decision to leave Sooryavanshi on the bench came as they backed up their opening line-up set for the series opener at Stormont.

However, the move failed to produce the desired result as Ireland successfully defended 182, restricting India to 148 with seven balls remaining to seal a 34-run victory.Abhishek Sharma provided the only spark for India at the top of the order with a half-century off 20 balls, but the rest of the batting unit struggled against Ireland’s disciplined bowling attack. Shivam Dube’s 25 was the second highest as India’s chase never gained momentum, renewing calls for Sooryavanshi to be handed his maiden appearance in the second and final T20I.
