On June 16, the Khan family received permission from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) to build a residential tower in Bandra Chimbai which is located a few hundred meters below Galaxy Apartments where the actor has lived since 1974.

In the Bollywood fan base, Galaxy Apartments is as famous a landmark as Mannat, the home of Shah Rukh Khan. Both the actors made a ritual of greeting their legions of fans on their birthdays and on Eid day. But the matter stopped for Salman Khan, after four bullets were fired in 2024 at his parents’ apartment, which is located one floor above his house, and is located on a busy road. The large open balcony where fans were welcomed was covered in bulletproof glass and was closed off from view shortly after. Amid fresh threats from Bishnoi’s gang, the actor briefly withdrew from public life, and has since been provided with additional security.

Salman Khan was the last of the stars to live in a regular apartment building in Mumbai. Most of the others live in their own shacks. According to MCZMA documents obtained by HT, the new house, which is located in a quiet side lane, away from the main road, and offers better security, will be built on a plot of land owned by Khan’s mother, Salma. According to minutes from the June 16 meeting, the parcel contained a two-story apartment building on the site dating back to before 1956. The original owner of the parcel was Mary Clotilde Baptista. The site was resold several times and the Khan family finally bought it in 2011. They subsequently demolished the two-storey building on the plot of land because it was dilapidated.

The minutes of the MCZMA state that the actor and his family want to construct a new residential building of ground + stilt + six floors which will be constructed under Regulation 33 (16) of the Development Control and Promotion Regulations, 2034. According to the minutes, an FSI of 1,459 will be consumed and an IOD (permission) will be issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on October 28, 2025. Sach Developers will construct the new construction of the caravanserai. The total building area is 1014.11 square meters.

The residential tower will also have a 6.01-meter-wide access road from the municipal road. Documents submitted to MCZMA also stated that no new trees would be cut or moved. The required number of indigenous trees will be planted around the plot of land and in the entertainment area of the project site.

When contacted, the actor’s representative declined to comment on this story.
