FBI Director Kash Patel’s girlfriend, Alexis Wilkins, has once again come out in her own defense and announced that she was not paid any money to sing the national anthem at the Freedom250 show. The 16-day event ahead of the country’s 250th Independence Day on July 4 kicked off Wednesday on the National Mall in Washington.Several acts and entertainers including Morris Day and The Time, rapper Young MC, Jodie Rocco of Milli Vanilli, country singer Martina McBride, The Commodores and former Poison frontman Bret Michaels have denied participating in the celebration.But after Alexis, the country music singer, performed, there was a wave of criticism and suggestions that she only participated in the event because she is friends with Patel. “You could hear a better performance at any high school ball game,” one X user wrote, while another said: “Why did they allow auto-tune this time?”“The good news is it’s 11pm when I see this and I’ve already taken my hearing aids out for the night,” another wrote.“Does getting the FBI director’s girlfriend paid by taxpayers to perform this work violate federal ethics law?” Sarah Higdon posted what Alexis chose to respond to – in order to put an end to the speculation and name-calling.
“I’ve been a country music artist for years now. I’ve had a successful career in both music and commentary/strategy. People can’t deny that because of the clicks or the headlines. I was invited to sing this anthem with my own approval, as Wilkins wrote about singing it in many other places throughout my career.”
“I do not accept any money for this great honor. The entire Freedom250 celebration is a fundraiser; none of the UFC celebrations nor any celebrations on the National Mall are funded by taxpayers,” the 27-year-old singer wrote about the “taxpayer” segment.Wilkins added as a warning: “I no longer accept false narratives and false accusations that belittle my hard work and the accomplishments I have achieved, so please expect this type of response to continue.”Alexis Wilkins has had her own share of controversy since the beginning of Patel’s tenure as FBI chief. Their relationship came to the radar due to their age difference and Wilkins was accused of being an Israeli spy. The movement of Patel’s plane was also examined to determine whether Patel was traveling for business or personal reasons.
