A Saudi Arabia channel correspondent was killed in Yemen after a bomb planted in his car exploded in the eastern city of Mukalla, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing the channel.Muhammad Aidah, a Yemeni journalist who was writing for Al Arabiya and its sister channel Al Hadath, was killed on Wednesday evening in Mukalla, the capital of Hadramaut Governorate.According to Al Arabiya, local security authorities had warned Aida about a month ago that his life was in danger, without providing details. No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Southern Transitional Council links the attack to the deterioration of the security situation

The Southern Transitional Council condemned the killing, describing it as an assassination and an indication of the broader security challenges facing Hadhramaut.In a statement, the Southern Transitional Council blamed the deteriorating situation on the dismantling of security units that played a major role in expelling al-Qaeda fighters from the region in 2016.

Yemen orders a high-level investigation

The head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, directed the formation of a high-level joint committee to investigate the attack. He stressed that the government will spare no effort to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Yemen has been mired in conflict since 2014, when the Iran-backed Houthi movement seized control of the capital, Sanaa, triggering a Saudi-led military intervention. Years of fighting have left the country highly fragmented and unstable.

The Committee to Protect Journalists has repeatedly described Yemen as one of the most dangerous countries in the world for media professionals.The journalist’s killing comes amid growing concerns about the safety of journalists in conflict zones around the world. According to the International Federation of Journalists and the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, at least 236 Palestinian journalists and media workers were killed during the war in Gaza.The organizations called for independent investigations into the deaths and urged greater protection for journalists covering armed conflicts.
