Karlovy Vary adds Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick and Harvey Keitel will start with a World Cup documentary

As if the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) needed more star power on the double anniversary of its 60th edition in its 80th year, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick and Harvey Keitel have been lined up to join the list of celebrities attending this year’s Czech film festival.

The bold names were revealed Tuesday alongside Dustin Hoffman, Juliette Binoche and legendary cinematographer Robert Richardson, who will receive this year’s Crystal Globe Awards for outstanding artistic contributions to world cinema, as well as Jeffrey Wright, who will be honored with the KVIFF President’s Award.

In its latest edition, which runs from July 3 to 11, the Czech Cinema Celebration previously revealed that Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jesse Eisenberg won the President’s Award.

“Famous American actor Harvey Keitel will appear for the third time at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival,” organizers said on Tuesday. “At the 39th edition of the festival in 2004, Keitel received the Crystal Globe Award for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema. Eleven years later, he returned to Karlovy Vary to present Paolo Sorrentino’s film. youthsIn which he played one of the main roles. The film received a Bravo Audience Award, which Keitel personally accepted.

KVIFF highlighted Sedgwick as an Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress, producer, and director “whose film and television work captured and defined the zeitgeist.”

She praised Bacon as “one of the most distinguished actors whose talent for balancing starring roles and strong supporting characters in film, television and on stage has allowed him to build a diverse and critically acclaimed body of work.”

KVIFF on Tuesday also revealed its opening and closing films for this year’s edition. It will open with the Argentine-Spanish documentary MatchThe film, directed by Juan Cabral and Santiago Franco, chronicles the 1986 FIFA World Cup match between Argentina and England, made famous by Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” goal. “One of the most compelling films at Cannes this year proves that some iconic moments from sports history can touch the essence of human existence,” said Karel Ochs, Artistic Director of KVIFF.

KVIFF’s double anniversary edition will conclude with Noah Segan’s crime drama The only living pickpocket in New Yorkstarring John Turturro, which had its world premiere at Sundance.
