After the NEET re-test was conducted on Sunday, June 21, the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Center posted a ‘fake video’ claiming that the exam paper had been leaked on Telegram. The video spread on social media, prompting the examination authority to issue a clarification.

The fact-checking unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Monday described the video as fake, saying that “reports alleging the paper leak are baseless and false.”

“A video is circulating on social media claiming that the NEET (UG) 2026 re-exam question paper was leaked on Telegram before the exam. This claim is fake. According to NTA, reports alleging paper leak are baseless and false,” PIB Fact Check said on X.

NTA issues warning

The NTA also issued a statement saying the re-examination was successfully completed on Sunday, and warned against spreading misinformation on social media.

“NTA’s attention has been drawn to a fabricated video being circulated on social media regarding NEET (UG) 2026. The video is fake, and the claims it makes are false. The examination was successfully conducted today under comprehensive security and monitoring measures,” NTA said.

“Intentionally manufacturing and circulating such misinformation to defraud or alarm students is a serious offence. NTA, with support from I4C and law enforcement agencies, is taking action against those responsible for creating such content. We appeal to students, parents and the public to check only through http://neet.nta.nic.in and official NTA handles, and not amplify such material. The 20 lakh aspirants deserve a calm and fair process,” NTA said. Statement.

According to the agency, more than 20,000 candidates have appeared to retake the NEET (UG) 2026 exam across 5,440 centers in India and 14 centers abroad, with the exam being conducted in 13 languages.

NTA Director General Abhishek Singh said the re-examination went smoothly with complete security arrangements in place, ANI reported. “So far, we have not received any complaints regarding question paper leak. NTA is working vigorously to ensure the integrity of the process. We are 100 per cent confident,” Singh told reporters on Sunday.

He added that the evaluation process will begin soon and the results will be announced faster than usual, noting that the authority has compressed the entire exam cycle into a record 37 days.

NEET class paper leakage

NEET (UG) 2026 was rife with controversies after an alleged paper leak row last month followed by a huge uproar prompted the NTA to schedule a re-examination. This controversy was the highlight of the Cockroach Janta Party protests that took place in different parts of the country where the protesting students and activists demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

At least 14 student suicides were reported after the re-examination schedule was announced.

A 19-year-old student from Hisar district died by suicide on Sunday morning just hours before her exam. She was preparing for NEET in Sikar, Rajasthan and this was her third attempt – her first attempt was unsuccessful and the second was canceled due to paper leakage.

On the morning of the exam, around 10 a.m., she suddenly became ill at home and was taken to a local doctor, but her condition worsened. She later told her family that she had consumed insecticide kept in the house and was taken to a hospital in Hisar, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Her family said she studied late at night and seemed normal before the accident.

When contacted, Hisar Police Superintendent Siddhant Jain said, “Yes, there are reports that a 19-year-old NEET student died due to suicide but it cannot be confirmed that she died due to exam stress.”
