According to the Nowshera police station official, the incident occurred at around 11 am on June 16 when troops of 4 Kumaon were on patrol in the Forward Line of Control (LoC) area. During the operation, an accidental mine explosion occurred, wounding one JEM member and three army personnel.

The injured soldiers were immediately evacuated from the site and provided initial medical assistance before being shifted to the Army Command Hospital in Udhampur for specialized treatment.

The officials said that the Kalal sector is a sensitive stretch along the Line of Control where troops conduct regular patrols to maintain operational vigilance and prevent infiltration attempts.

The condition of those injured is being closely monitored, while authorities continue to evaluate the circumstances surrounding the explosion.

Meanwhile, Operation Sherwali is still ongoing in the dense Durimal forests of Gambir Moglan area of Rajouri district.

Security forces intensified search and cordon operations across the rugged forest terrain. The operation is taking place in the densely forested Durimal Hills, where steep slopes, rocky mountains and dense vegetation continue to pose major challenges to the troops.

Despite the difficult conditions, security personnel remain on high alert and are conducting extensive searches, surveillance and area control measures to track down any suspicious movement.

Earlier, on June 7, an Army soldier lost his life after accidentally slipping off a rock during Operation Sherwali.

According to the sources, the soldier was moving through the rugged mountainous terrain during the anti-terrorism operation when he lost his balance and fell from a rocky slope, sustaining serious injuries. He was immediately transferred to receive treatment, but he died of his wounds.

On May 28, heavy firing and artillery shelling broke out in Rajouri’s Durimal forest area, with Operation Sherwali reaching a critical phase, with security forces tightening cordon around suspected militants hiding in the dense area.

The officials said that additional reinforcements and logistical support were sent to the area to ensure a strong cordon and prevent militants from escaping through the forest cover.

Operation Sherwali is a sustained large-scale anti-terrorism combing mission in the dense forest belts of Dorimal-Gambir Moglan sector of Rajouri District.

The inter-agency operation, launched in late May, aims to locate and neutralize armed infiltrators believed to be hiding in the region’s rugged mountainous terrain. (that I)
