A 22-year-old woman from Sikkim was killed by her boyfriend, who slit her throat with a kitchen knife after an argument at their rented accommodation in Bengaluru’s Doddakanahalli area on Sunday morning, police said, adding that the 26-year-old accused was arrested soon after the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Ati Hangma Subba, 22, a native of Sikkim who was working as a receptionist at a salon in Bengaluru. The police said that the accused, identified as Purba Lepcha, a resident of Darjeeling, was working as a waiter in a hotel.
Investigators said repeated arguments arose between the couple in recent weeks after Lepcha suspected Sopa of having conversations with another man. Officers believe those arguments culminated in a fatal confrontation in their apartment on Sunday morning.
“The couple was staying together at Doddakannalli. Deputy Commissioner of Whitefield Police, Saidulu Adavat, said the accused had a suspicion about the victim’s relationship with another person. On Sunday morning, an altercation broke out between them over the same issue. During the altercation, the accused allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and attacked the woman, fatally wounding her on her neck.”
Police said the woman collapsed after suffering severe bleeding and died before medical help arrived at the apartment.
According to the source, the accused tried to flee after the accident, but he was found and detained by the police. “After committing the crime, the accused tried to flee the scene. However, based on the information received and quick action by the police team, he was tracked down and detained. A case has been registered at Bellandur police station and further investigations are underway,” Adavat said.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination. Investigators are interrogating the accused to determine the full sequence of events and are collecting forensic and other evidence from the apartment and the surrounding area.
