New Delhi: As India prepares for the highly anticipated opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 against arch-rival Pakistan, the women’s team received a major boost as members of the men’s team sent heartfelt messages of support and encouragement ahead of the blockbuster encounter.After her historic Women’s ODI World Cup triumph last year, Harmanpreet Kaur and her team entered the tournament carrying the expectations of millions and the hope of ending their long wait for a maiden Women’s T20 World Cup title.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash against Pakistan at Edgbaston, several stars from the men’s squad came together in a special video shared by the BCCI, urging the Women in Blue to play fearlessly and bring the trophy home.

Rohit, Gambhir and Gill rally behind Women in Blue

Former India captain Rohit Sharma praised the team’s consistency and support to finally go the distance in T20 cricket.“They have been playing really good cricket for the last few years now. I know they have come very close in T20 cricket, but this time I want us to go all the way. Everyone is rooting for them. They have a strong team, a very balanced team. They will enjoy playing in England. Best wishes from all of us here in the India men’s team,” Rohit said.

Coach Gautam Gambhir delivered an inspiring message, urging the players to embrace the occasion with positivity.“I am sure you will make 140 crore Indians proud. Not many people get the opportunity to represent the country on the world stage. Don’t be afraid to make a mistake. Every time you have doubts, take the positive path. Good luck, bring the trophy home,” Gambhir said.India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill also expressed confidence in the team’s ability to write history once again.“You have won it before and you will do it again. We wish you all the best in the World Cup,” Gill said.

“Be brave, be tough”

Newly appointed T20I captain Shreyas Iyer called on the team to maintain an aggressive approach throughout the tournament.“I wish all the best to the Indian women’s cricket team. Be brave, be tough and play to win,” he said.Wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan urged the players to keep things simple and trust in the methods that have brought them success.“You have all been playing great cricket. Just keep it simple and believe in what you have done all year. We are all very proud of you and hope we win this trophy,” Kishan added.India begin their campaign against Pakistan in Birmingham on Sunday, with Harmanpreet’s side aiming to make a strong start in the expanded 12-team competition.
