A 22-year-old woman from Sikkim was killed by her boyfriend after an argument at the couple’s rented residence in Bengaluru’s Doddakanahalli area, police said.

The accused cut the woman’s throat with a kitchen knife and was arrested on Sunday, Pakistan News Agency reported, citing authorities.

According to the police, the victim, Ati Hangma Subba, 22, was working as a receptionist in a salon in Bengaluru while the accused, Purba Lepcha, a native of Darjeeling, was working as a waiter in a hotel.

The couple moved to Bengaluru recently

The couple was in a relationship and moved to Bengaluru about a month ago, police said. They were living together in a rented house in Doddakanahalli, which falls under the jurisdiction of Bellandur police station in the south-eastern area of ​​the city.

Investigators said that the incident was revealed at dawn on Sunday, and the accused was subsequently arrested.

A quarrel over suspicion, and an attack with a kitchen knife

According to preliminary investigations, a quarrel broke out between the couple on Thursday morning. Police said the quarrel broke out after Lepcha suspected Suba of being involved with another friend.

Investigators said what started as a dispute quickly turned violent.

During the altercation, Lepsha allegedly attacked Soba with a kitchen knife and cut her throat, police said.

The agency’s report added that the attack was fatal and Suba died of her injuries.

The police arrested the accused and opened a detailed investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

The case has been registered within the limits of Bellandur Police Station, and the investigation is still ongoing.

Police continue to examine the sequence of events leading up to the alleged murder and are collecting additional evidence as part of the investigation.
