Seth Rogen and James Franco spent years as close friends and collaborators on the short-lived TV show Freaks and Geeks And movies like Pineapple Express, This is the End, Disaster Artist and The interview.
But after Franco was hit with multiple allegations of sexual misconduct in 2018, Rogen said he had no plans to work with him again. His approach has not changed.

“I honestly think the nuance of it is too personal for me to get into right now,” Rogen said. “It’s a very personal thing. Regarding whether he was in contact with Franco, Rogen said that he had not spoken to him “for a long time.”

However, he acknowledged that the accusations against Franco had affected their friendship, but he could not say whether that meant they were no longer friends.
“I don’t know if I can say that now during this interview,” he said. “I can say that, you know, it’s changed a lot of things in our relationship and our dynamic.”

“We started hearing that she was sick,” he said. “As we were approaching Season 2, we were talking to her and she really wanted to come back. Honestly, in the back of our heads we were saying, ‘We hope she can make it, but we don’t know if she’ll make it.’ So it’s this very sad thing that, creatively, in the back of your mind, you’re making contingency plans but you don’t want to think about it. But your mind is telling you one thing and you’re trying not to believe it.”
He remembers learning of her death in the first week of filming the second season of the series studio.
“It was really sad. We were all together, the whole crew, and everyone loved her so much,” he says. “We didn’t know what to do, and we just kept filming. I think the idea of making each other laugh and being together was better than anything else we could have done that day.”

“Honestly, I haven’t made something romantic in a long time. It’s not creatively interesting for me to show two people falling in love. When we were first directing, every film had a romantic story or, like, a conflict between the main couple that needed to be resolved,” he said. “We’re now making ‘The Studio,’ which doesn’t have a romantic storyline in the show.”
