Actor Ajith Kumar has been balancing two major passions in recent years – cinema and professional motor sports. After the success of Adhik Ravichandran’s Good Bad Ugly, Ajith shifted a lot of his focus towards racing and participated in several international events with his racing team.
Additionally, talks regarding his next film, titled ‘AK 64’, have attracted a lot of attention from fans and the industry.
Recent reports about his wages and delays in his next project have become a major point of discussion.
Ajith ‘AK 64’ salary rumors clarified
Recent reports claimed that Ajith has agreed to reduce his remuneration from around Rs 163 crore to Rs 150 crore for his next project. However, an industry source has now claimed that the narrative surrounding the pay cuts is being misunderstood.
In an exclusive conversation with Etimes, the source said that “there is not even one percent truth” to reports that Ajith had to cut his fees due to market conditions.
The clarification also claimed that ‘AK 64’ could not have started last December due to issues related to the producer’s financial plans and investments associated with the theatrical rights of ‘Jana Nayagan’. Feeling that such developments could affect the smooth progress of the project, Ajith chose to wait until the situation became clearer rather than rush into production.
Racing scheduling and production issues reportedly delayed the film
The same source explained that Ajith has already concluded his racing commitments in advance. When the proposed schedule for filming AK 64 failed to go off as planned, those dates were reportedly not used due to production-related hurdles. According to the source, the delay has nothing to do with Ajith’s interest in films or his commitment to the project. Instead, it was linked to practical concerns surrounding financing and scheduling.
The source also dismissed social media discussions advising the actor to focus more on cinema, pointing out that Ajith has always maintained a clear plan to balance racing and acting.
An alternative deal structure may be under discussion
While speculation over pay continues, the industry source suggested that any revised deal, if one exists, could involve different working arrangements rather than a direct salary cut. On the basis of this claim, it appears that Ajith may be willing to accept a reduced amount in exchange for securing the digital rights or the right to screen the film in certain parts of the world. This is a common practice in the industry and can be beneficial for both actors and producers.
So far, there has been no official statement from Ajith or his representatives regarding these claims.
