The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday said it has successfully secured the return of two wanted fugitives — cybercrime accused Ganesh Balasu Kale from Thailand and alleged gangster Vinkit Garg from Georgia — through coordinated efforts involving Indian authorities, foreign governments and Interpol channels.

In two separate operations, Kali was extradited from Thailand while Garg was extradited from Georgia, the agency said. The two men were subject to Interpol Red Notices and were returned to India on Thursday, June 11.
The Central Bank of Iraq said that the two operations were carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, and concerned external parties.
More than 160 wanted criminals have been successfully returned to India in recent years through coordinated efforts involving multiple domestic and international agencies, the agency said.
Those accused of cybercrimes were tracked down in Thailand
According to the CBI, Ganesh Balasu Kale was wanted in connection with an online fraud case in which the victims were allegedly “lured by the offer of part-time jobs online. They were asked to make certain deposits as cash investments and were subsequently defrauded,” the agency said in a statement.
Investigators alleged that Cali ran a network involved in online financial crimes and used bank accounts owned by unsuspecting individuals to channel illicit funds. In return, people were allegedly promised benefits or commissions in exchange for allowing their accounts to be used.
The agency further alleged that the accused directed his co-conspirators to arrange mobile phones and obtain fake SIM cards to facilitate the commission of the crimes.
After an Interpol Red Notice was issued in May 2026, Cali was traced to Thailand and detained by Thai authorities in Bangkok on May 24. After legal procedures and coordination between the Indian and Thai authorities, he was deported to India on June 10.
The accused arrived in Mumbai on June 11 and was taken into custody by cyber cell officials of Maharashtra Police.
The CBI stressed that the Red Notice was published only in May 2026 and the accused was traced, arrested and returned to India within about 20 days, calling it an example of rapid international coordination.
Haryana gangster extradited from Georgia
In a separate case, the CBI said it had coordinated the extradition of Vainkit Garg, an fugitive wanted by Haryana Police in multiple criminal cases.
According to the agency, Garg is a known gangster wanted on charges including murder, attempted murder, extortion, organized crime and use of illegal firearms.
The CBI said that Garg was initially arrested while investigating the cases but later escaped after obtaining bail from the court and left India to evade legal proceedings.
At the request of the Haryana Police, the National Central Bureau in New Delhi issued an Interpol Red Notice against him. After his geographical location and arrest by the authorities in Georgia, India submitted a formal request for his extradition.
After legal procedures, the Georgian authorities approved the extradition request and handed over the accused to an escort team from Haryana Police that traveled to the country.
The escort team along with Garg reached Delhi on June 11, where he was formally handed over to the Haryana Police.
