It looks like Donald Trump didn’t have many fans at the NBA Finals in New York City on Monday night.
During Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, which saw the New York Knicks take on the San Antonio Spurs, the president appeared as a guest to watch his hometown team.
However, when Trump appeared on the Jumbotron saluting the flag while Broadway star Avery Wilson sang the national anthem, a wave of loud boos could be heard across the arena, according to videos shared on social media (below). He seemed to smile in response.
Monday night’s game in the 2026 NBA Finals is especially significant because it marks the Knicks’ first trip to the championship round since 1999. That year, New York also played the Spurs and lost in five games.
Trump likely won’t be the only high-profile guest in attendance, as celebrities have been coming out to support their teams throughout the NBA Finals. Knicks fans Timothée Chalamet, Ben Stiller, Spike Lee, and Tracy Morgan have been spotted sitting courtside at games regularly.
Since returning to the White House last year, the president has attended numerous sporting events. In addition to Game 3, he previously attended the Super Bowl, the Daytona 500, the US Open Men’s Tennis Final, and the Washington Commanders NFL Game, among others. Trump also received mixed reactions at several of these events, including intense booing from fans at a Washington Commanders match and a mix of boos and cheers at the US Open final.
