National Award-winning Malayalam actor and director Salim Kumar died on the night of June 6 at a private hospital in Kochi after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 56 years old. The veteran actor was placed on a ventilator after his health condition deteriorated earlier in the day.

Salim Kumar had reportedly been suffering from multiple health conditions for a long time. According to reports by The New Indian Express, he was suffering from cirrhosis of the liver, kidney-related diseases and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Years ago, he also underwent a liver transplant after being diagnosed with cirrhosis.The actor was taken to the hospital after his condition deteriorated.
Doctors put him on a ventilator while he underwent treatment. However, he reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest on Saturday night and died, ending a career that had been enjoyed by generations of fans.
