An Indian-origin man, Lupreet Singh, posted a video showing how a woman in Canada asked him to “go back to India”.
A video of an Indian-origin man forcefully resisting a racist attack from a woman in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia has gone viral. The woman driving the car asked the man who was recording the video to return to his home country.
The man rebuked the woman and said: “Your face says you are a racist. Your face says it all.”“Come back if you don’t like it,” the woman said.“Back where?” The man replied. “Where I come from,” the woman said.“Where do you think I came from?” The man said.“Get out of my car,” the woman shouted.“You may be unemployed but I have a job,” the man shouted back and called the woman a “piece of f**king b*tch” and a “f**king Karen.”
Lopreet Singh, a man of Indian origin, posted the video clip on his Instagram account, and said that this happened to him in Kentville, Nova Scotia, a small town where he works. “It only took a little to ruin my day. I had already made the phrase ‘Go back to India’ before I took out my phone and later changed it to ‘To your mother,'” Lepreet wrote. This is not an everyday thing (sic) but make sure when it happens to you, speak up and speak out because racism has no place and is never welcome! I hope this video reaches the people of Kentville so that you feel embarrassed wherever you go because since I work in the city, people are definitely not like that!” Lovepreet wrote. As the video went viral, social media users commented that Lovepreet was clearly not a criminal or illegal, but he still faced such a racist attack.“He’s not illegal, he’s not a criminal, he pays his taxes, he contributes to the community and he’s a law-abiding citizen. What does he get in return? Uneasy peace of mind? Harassment? Racism?” Someone commented.Several people came out in support of the woman and said it was not clear from the video that went viral what prompted the woman to attack Lovepreet and some context may be missing.
