An 18-year-old Chicago student was kicked out of his graduation ceremony, denied a diploma after doing a 'split' on stage: 'You really hurt my feelings'

A Chicago high school graduate said she was removed from her graduation ceremony and denied her diploma after celebrating with splits on stage while receiving her diploma, Fox32 reported.18-year-old Tyvon Campbell recently graduated from Chicago Tech Academy. She claims school officials prevented her from receiving her diploma after she performed the dance move during the school’s commencement ceremony at the Harold Washington Cultural Center in Chicago. This moment was well received by family and friends in the audience. However, things got worse when Campbell said she realized she had not received her diploma after crossing the stage.“I tried to get my degree, and I didn’t get it,” Campbell said. She added: “I was confused at first. I thought they mixed up my name.”The 18-year-old graduated with a 3.5 GPA and plans to study business administration at Georgia State University. She said she later confronted school leaders about the incident.According to Campbell, the school’s principal, Zataya Shackelford, criticized her for drawing attention to herself during the party.

“Miss Principal,” said Campbell [Zataya] Shackelford told me I needed to think of a way to make up for what I had done. “This was supposed to be a celebratory moment and I created it myself.”Campbell said she was escorted out of the ceremony shortly afterward, leaving her unable to enjoy the remainder of the event with her classmates.“It was disappointing,” she said. She added: “It really hurt my feelings. I cried and couldn’t even go on to graduate.”The graduate claims she has yet to receive her degree following the incident. The controversy sparked debate online, with supporters questioning whether the punishment was too harsh. Campbell also argued that there is no specific school policy prohibiting students from doing breakouts or similar dance moves while crossing the stage. The incident is the latest graduation ceremony controversy to make headlines in the United States. Earlier this year, Lynn Hijaz, a student at Clayton High School in North Carolina, had her voice cut during her commencement speech after criticizing immigration enforcement policies.
