The family of a 20-year-old NEET student, who died by suicide 14 days ago in Nagpur, has now claimed that the recent paper leak and cancellation of the exam prompted them to take the extreme step.

Their claim was based on an alleged suicide note found in her book.
The girl, from Moganj district of Madhya Pradesh, lived in Nagpur, where her father worked as a cook. The family returned to their village in Mojang district to perform the last rites and found the note in their book.
“I had high hopes of getting good grades”
The girl wrote in the note: “I had high hopes of getting good grades in NEET, but now there is no guarantee that I will do well if I have to take the paper again. I’m sorry mom and dad. I’ve ruined everything.”

Her relatives said she fell into depression after the exam was cancelled, although they did not initially realize this was the reason behind her death.
Her father said, “My daughter was brilliant in her studies and always dreamed of becoming a doctor. Despite our limited means, we took out loans worth thousands of dollars to support her education. After the exam, she was happy and confident that she would be selected. But the moment the news broke that the paper was leaked and cancelled, she was devastated. My 20 years of hard work was in vain because the government failed to conduct the exam properly.”

He added that his youngest son, who is in ninth grade, might be asked to give up academics altogether. “It is better to put him in agriculture than to shock him with the failure of the system.”
Congress Youth President Jah Gangoria visited the bereaved family and assured their support in dealing with their educational debt. He said: “We are with the family because they lost their daughter due to the failure of the system.”
